Five birds to listen for at The Secret Campsite in April

Song Thrush

The Song Thrush has a very varied song, but the ‘repeat and switch’ pattern, delivered from a high perch, usually gives it away.

Bullfinch

The Bullfinch has one of the subtlest songs and a plain but distinctive whistle, that can help us find it among the leaves.

Nightingale

The Nightingale’s song is rightly famed as the richest of them all, but it is now scarce in the UK, and only audible for a few weeks from early April.

Stock Dove

The Stock Dove’s ‘reverse coo’ can be heard wherever there are mature oaks - but will you be able to see who’s calling?

Blackcap

The Blackcap has a sweet, rushing, varied warble that enlivens parks and gardens throughout the UK from early spring.
