About Birdsong Academy founder Charlie Peverett

Charlie is a long-time patch watcher, bird surveyor and bird guide who has helped thousands of people to identify birds by sound.

During the lockdown in spring 2020 he created Up With The Birds, a ‘crowdsourced dawn chorus’ via Zoom that connected people all over the UK to listen, share, and learn about the birdsong near them. In response to requests for more structured learning, Charlie started Birdsong Academy, offering ‘Shriek of the Week’ emails, walking workshops and an online course.

When not out with the birds, Charlie can be found working on digital communications for Sussex Wildlife Trust.

“A very big thank you to Charlie, whose guidance made the entire experience truly special and memorable. His passion and deep knowledge were evident in every moment, and he had a remarkable way of bringing the subject to life.

He encouraged curiosity, answered every question thoughtfully, and ensured everyone felt involved. Thanks to him, we didn’t just observe - we developed a deeper appreciation and understanding of the natural world around us. It was an experience that will stay with us for a long time.”
